You know it haunts your nights….what if Kung Fu Meghan was published by Archie comics? And now you know. Terribly, horribly, you KNOW. Once seen it can never be unseen. Your life will never be the same.
For the curious, I will be posting an alternate version of this over at Facebook in exciting FULL COLOR! So now would be a great time to get acquainted with the official FB page for Kung Fu Meghan (is what I’m saying). The color picture will be up in the morning as I am off to bed. Stay safe.
Here’s a quick update for the hiatus: Currently 12 pages done out of 18 for Chapter 3 so hiatus will likely last three weeks. I still plan to update every week though.
The above image is from a long time ago and is the 2nd drawing I did related to KungFu Meghan (the first was Meghan). I had drawn a picture of a Sister Streetfighter-type girl swinging a pair of nunchuks and it was posted in my cube at work. A supervisor in the area commented that she was “swingin’ them woodchucks” and, well, that was too funny to pass up. The drawing was done quickly (and badly) with ballpoint pen on copy paper so I had to bust out the magic wand in Photoshop to get a workable file but for the two people who might be interested it’s a little peek into the beginnings of Kung Fu Meghan.
That’s a wrap for Chapter 2. To all those who said it couldn’t be done, IN YO FACE!!! (Actually, no one said this but if they had they’d look mighty silly right now.)As mentioned a few weeks back, I will be taking a brief hiatus to finish Ch3. The next chapter is 2/3 finished and I’ve got 3/4 of the script for Chapter 4 completed so the gap will be brief but I’m afraid if I don’t take one now I’ll have to do it mid-chapter at some point. I’d like to avoid that if at all possible. Fear not readers (both of you) I will have some material to post in the meantime so updates to the site will not be interrupted.
Now would also be a fantastic time to take advantage of the Contact page shown above and connect with me through Twitter or Facebook to keep abreast of developments. I occasionally post bonus art and other stuff out there in addition to the site updates so what are you waiting for? Jump on in!
I plan to start hyping the site more now that two full chapters are there for people to see. I hope one day that readers will outnumber Ukrainian hackers in my site statistics.
Lastly, while I don’t generally like to explain my comics, the line this week about a “worthless housefly” could use a little context. Some years ago I was required to watch a training video at work on dealing with difficult customers. Since the video couldn’t include actual swearing and vulgarity they had the imaginary “difficult customer” use a variety of imaginary insults and “worthless housefly” was one of them. I couldn’t resist shoehorning that into the comic but it’s a bit of a non-sequitur. Anyway, enough babble, stay safe and I’ll be back with an update next week!
I’m very fond of this particular page. It came out pretty well, I think.
One more page and Chapter 2 is complete! I still plan to take a week or two off to get caught up on pages for Chapter 3 but the script for Chapter 4 is almost done so there won’t be a long hiatus.
Random stuff: News article over the weekend discussing a suit filed by Jack Daniels (actually their parent company) over an alleged trademark infringement by an independent outfit selling Popcorn Sutton Tennessee Moonshine. Popcorn Sutton was a real life bootlegger featured in a couple of documentaries, including this one, in which he claims to have given up the moonshine trade. Six years later he was busted with close to 900 gallons of illegal hooch. Sadly, he chose to end his life rather than face prison time.
The rightness or wrongness of his choices and the nature of law are sort of beside the point here though. His fame had spread enough that a company approached him to manufacture his “secret recipe” in a completely legal and aboveboard fashion. Now that the bottles are hitting the market, the legal parasites attached to Jack Daniels are suing not merely for a change in the label (a burden on any company) but also for the complete destruction of all product AND THE HANDING OVER OF ALL PROFITS MADE. I’m sure they’re aiming for a settlement of some sort but man that sticks in my craw as just some ridiculous hubris. As someone who might someday start trying to merchandise my work, the idea that a design that is too close to a corporate design would potentially require me to hand over EVERYTHING…well, it’s a sad day in America.
No news again this week but here is a bonus picture of a camel. (click to embiggen)

Poor Meghan. The homicidal maniac doesn’t take her seriously. Haven’t we all been there?
Re-doing all the old pages is proceeding much slower than I would like but scans are all finished and Chapter One is now done. The bad part is that between the day job and all the duplicate labor I am waaaay behind on new pages. I’m well into chapter three but I’m thinking I may take a couple of weeks off at the end of Chapter two to catch up a little. I still intend to have weekly posts but they may be more random art pages or single panel gags or something just to fill the space. I don’t expect this to be a problem as readership remains mostly non-existent but in case anyone does read this…now you know.
Random note: I got my cat a mouse toy with “realistic squeaking” sound effects today and she nearly had a kitty meltdown. None of her other toys make a noise and she had the hardest time wrapping her brain around it. It was both hilarious and slightly cruel.
‘Til next week!
Aaaaand….SPLASH PAGE!!!
So here we are, a mere six months into the Adventures of Kung Fu Meghan, and now we actually get to see Meghan have a little adventure. Never let it be said I’m rushing this.
I was hoping to maybe start promoting the site a bit this week but I’m so far behind on new pages and so far behind on re-scanning old pages to improve the quality that I think it’s best I wait until Ch 2 rolls to a close (late Oct). For now I will continue to be a lost soul crying in the wilderness, adrift from all humanity. Or something.
