The dialogue on this page took forever to write but I’m pretty happy with the results.
I was hoping to have all the Facebook stuff added this week but apparently the official wordpress plugin is nowhere near as simple as the one for Twitter. It seems I can get the buttons added but if I actually want them to link to anything I have to “upgrade” my account to a “developer” account and then…something or other, I still haven’t figured it out. If I were an IT specialist working for a major corporation this would probably be no big deal but the main reason people like me use the WP platform is because we AREN’T developers and can’t afford to hire one. You might think that would have been taken into consideration when FB was creating their OFFICIAL wordpress plugin. I mean, this isn’t something that some random dude put together and then floated it to the net.
Okay, enough griping for today. Stay safe and I’ll be back next week with another exciting complaint session webcomic page!
It would appear that Mu Fanchu is not to be trifled with.
No real news this week apart from adding a link to the KFM Facebook page in the About section. I got lazy and didn’t get around to installing the wordpress plugin for all the “like” buttons and whatnot but I should have that done in the next couple days. As always, stay safe and I will talk at you next week.
Oooo Yeah, action time!
No big news this week. Last month I wrote some stuff for Mothers Day but unfortunately I lost my Dad four years ago so all I’m going to say on Fathers Day is this: I miss you Dad. A whole lot.
Hold on to what you’ve got while you’ve got it and I’ll see you next week.
Aaaand we finally get to the kung fu part of Kung Fu Meghan. Mu Fanchu is the first of many villains to come (I plot the story WAY in advance) and I hope you enjoy this shift in direction as much as I do. Fear not, the office humor will return eventually but it’s time for a little martial arts mayhem, just to break things up a little.
There will be some changes to the site popping up in the near future. The logo was kind of thrown together so there will be change on that. I’m already experimenting with image size and I have just created a Facebook page (but I’m not ready to show it off yet so be patient). As always, let me know if you have any thoughts on the subject and stay safe. Talk to you next week!
Oops, sorry for the late post. I woke up this morning and remembered I had forgot to do the update. Mea Culpa.
No particular news this week so I hope all of you are well and not too bitterly disappointed by my tardy update. Be back next week to see the introduction of a new character and a world of trouble for the call center. Stay safe and I will talk to you then!
Happy memorial day for everyone! Hope you have something good planned for the weekend, maybe spend some time in the pool or grill up some food. I will likely be doing yard work all day because that’s the kind of rock-and-roll wild man I am. For those who have a clear view (I won’t have one handy) don’t forget to check out the planetary conjunction. I seriously need to get a telescope, especially with the comet coming later in the year. If any readers like to do astro-photography and you snap some photos of the conjunction I’d love to see them. Anyway, stay safe and enjoy the time off (if you get any) and I’ll be back here next week!
A new chapter starts today. I’m really looking forward to getting this one out there.
Just in case you’re reading this in Braille I’ll mention that I’ve added the Follow button for Twitter to the site officially now. Facebook is next, I suppose, although I’m a little leery of it. Too many stolen password stories and endless amounts of phishing scams based on FB showing up in my spam folders for me to really be comfortable with it. Still, it is the premier social network site so trying to close my eyes and hope it goes away is probably not the best strategy (I read recently that something like 50% of the UK is on Facebook).
I’m also pondering the possibility of allowing comments to be posted to each page. That’s another one that seems ripe for abuse but it might be nice to let people talk about the comic a little. I dunno. Drop me a line and let me know what you think or post a comment on twitter or something. At any rate, stay safe and I’ll be back here next week.
I’m usually a brutal critic of my own work but I actually like the top panel and inset panel in this page. That’s pretty rare. Anyway, this brings us to the conclusion of our first “chapter”. Next week we begin a more action-oriented storyline (albeit still heavy on the comedy). I’m really excited to get this one out there so I hope you all enjoy it too.
I’m posting early today for Mother’s Day. There’s always a ton of sentimental stuff for Moms published every year at this time but I can’t help adding my two cents
I’ve commented frequently over the years to my friends etc. about the strange transformation that your relationship with your parents undergoes as you get older. As a child your parents are gods. They define your reality, they establish the rules for life and whether or not their actions are pleasant (presents on your birthday) or unpleasant (a spanking when you misbehave) those actions are the LAW and the filter through which the rest of the world is delivered to you. Eventually you get older, you begin to challenge and question that authority but it is still an AUTHORITY that you question. It’s not until you move out and form your own independent life that you truly start to see your parents for what they really are. They’re people, same as all the other people you meet day in and day out, with all the same flaws and quirks that make your time on this Earth both wonderful and aggravating. They carry the same short tempers and strange beliefs and compulsive behaviors and desires for instant gratification that we all do.
But.
Somehow, in that maddening swirl of impulse, random emotions of fear and anger and the endless self-doubt that most of us can never fully shake, somehow your parents held it together in their heads and they did it for YOU. (I am all too aware some of you may have had parents that didn’t and you have my deepest sympathies) Whatever their arguments (and they ALL argued), whatever pain they struggled with they kept it together for YOU. It’s tempting, I suppose, to find diminishment in the revelation of their humanity but I would argue it also presents an enrichment, a realization that being a parent doesn’t just magically make you everything you should be. You still have to fight for it, the same as everything else in life worth doing.
And so today I say Thank You, Mom. Thank you for trying so hard and thank you for all the good you gave to me and all the love you STILL carry for me. Thank you and know that I love you, too.
Back again for another update and our first solid hint as to what the Ronin Glen has been hiding (as if the name “Ronin Glen” wasn’t enough of a clue).
The big news this week is I finally have my Twitter account up and running. I’ve added it to the contact page or if it’s too much of a struggle to click over there you can link here @roninglen.
I personally prefer to read my webcomics in big chunks so even comics that update daily are rarely visited by me more than once a week. Since my comic is only updating weekly for now, I would definitely suggest anyone with a Twitter account sign up to follow me. I won’t be posting a lot of material or even posting every single update but I WILL make certain I send notice whenever a new episode starts so you can go back and read the last one in one sitting. Or not. It’s copacetic either way.
I’m also thinking I might shift the comics layout over to the left and include a sidebar with links to some of my favorite comics and one of them fancy-schmancy Twitter follow buttons. Any thoughts on the subject? Stay safe everyone and I’ll be back next week with the last page of episode one.
